LO1 Task 1 Analysing media products (Facebook)

Facebook – 

Purpose:
This is a social online networking service, where users can message people and friends from all around the world express their views and opinions and even upload pictures for all of them to see. A man named Mark Zuckerberg invented this social app. Since august 2015 there have been 1.8 billion monthly active users.

Content: 
Facebook allows its users to upload there own personal content to the internet weather thats images or personal statuses for friends and family to see. However in recent times videos have started to get popular on this social media site too. Facebook also allows famous celebtrities to promote themselfs as they rise up.



Target Audience:
Facebook in recent times has been used by almost everyone across the world even people ranging from ages to 13 - 90. There is a minimum requirement to sign up for facebook and that is 13 years old. From this age rating we can see that 18 - 25 use facebook the most at 86% and over 45 year olds use it the least at 15%.

Legal/ethical issues:
With many social media sites there are many legal and ehical issues as you would expect. Many fake profiles are created, the most common is of fake celebrities as people pretend to be them, many issues can arrise from cyber bulying too and online trolls.

LO1 Task 1 Analysing media products (Instagram)

Instagram – 

Purpose: Instagram is an online mobile photo sharing and video sharing network service which allows users to also text. It was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger in 2010. In 2010 the app had 100 million active users and 2 years later in 2014 they had 300 million users it rapidly gained popularity.

Content: 
Instagram allows its users to upload there own faviroute images and videos for there followers to see. Users are able to like and comment on the image or video which has been uploaded. You can even Direct message people on the app. Instagram also is another platform which allows celebrities to promote themselfs on.





Target Audience:
Instagram is aimed at teenagers from 13 years old this again is the minimum requirement. As you can see from this image millions of people use instagram daily. The most popilar usage is from people ages 18-24 and more females use this paticular application. The least usage is from ages 35-44.

Instagrams main source is from advertising which can appear in the corner of your phone screens it also has many investors so therefore it gains money from there to keep running.

LO1 Task 1 Analysing media products (Snapchat)


Snapchat – 

Purpose: This is social app for both android and iPhone where users can send videos and pictures of what is going on in their daily life to all their contacts that have Snapchat. Two men named Bobby murphy, Evan Spiegel in September 2011 the initially started on the project at the university in Sanford. In May 2014 it was recorded that users were sending 700 million photos and videos per day.

Content: 
Snapchat allows users to send 10 second snaps and videos to there family or friends. You can even text friends from there and writing mini captions to show what your doing. Being allowed to put it on your story shows all your friends what youve been up too recently.

























Target Audience:
The Target audience is genrally for snapchat 16+ but there are many underage users who use this application too. As we can see more females use this application and the age range is a staggering 71 percent for 25 years and older.

Snapchat is funded through investors and big companies, they are funded by some big names such as Yahoo and Benchmark this is because it is one of the top rising apps so it has gain many intrests.

Legal/ethical issues:
There are many legal and ethical issues starting from underage nudes being sent from teenagers who are not 18 yet, also sexting and hooking up is really common and there can be really un trusty worthy people who may screenshot the pictures and expose there ex partner it is almost a form of grooming, so you must be careful.
